What Mindfulness Is

Mindfulness training is an interdisciplinary approach to finding a new way of being with ourselves and perceiving our experiences. It is an ongoing, in-depth process taught through various meditation techniques to learn to suspend habitual ways of seeing, feeling, thinking about and judging our experiences. It is about developing awareness and seeing anew. This shift from doing to being is the crucial step towards becoming active participants in our experience. It is a bridge that pure intellect alone cannot  span. Mindfulness training entails developing a deep awareness of our being minds through direct experience.

It is a synthesis of current psychological and scientific understanding of traditional Buddhist practice, and its philosophy of mindfulness meditation. This synthesis, together with selected exercises, has been adapted and integrated in a completely secular form, with no religious context.
